Clinical Virology Network Advisory Group formed

The UK CVN membership has key skills and experience to provide advice on the delivery of the UK COVID-19 pandemic response. In recognition of this, and in order to provide a representative view, the UK CVN executive agreed to form an advisory group comprising members across all regions and countries of the UK, and from the Republic of Ireland. At formation, the CVNAG will only consider topics related to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. In due course, the group may widen the remit to cover other virological areas.

Two approaches to generating neutralising antibodies against SARS-CoV-2

The authors selected pairs of highly-potent individual antibodies that could simultaneously bind the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein.

SARS-CoV-2 can develop resistance to therapeutic antibodies

Some novel spike mutants did rapidly appear following in vitro passaging in the presence of the antibodies individually, leading to a loss of neutralisation

July 03, 2020

Identification of neutralising antibodies that work prophylactically in a Syrian hamster model of SARS-CoV-2 infection

Neutralising antibodies could be used for prophylaxis, and potentially therapy, of COVID-19

July 03, 2020

Isolation and characterisation of monoclonal antibodies from three convalescent COVID-19 patients

These antibodies are promising therapeutic candidates and provide evidence for vaccine design

July 02, 2020

Cross-neutralising antibodies found in previous SARS-CoV donor

Antibodies may be used for therapeutic interventions, and also suggest that a pan-sarbecovirus vaccine may be possible.

July 02, 2020

Shedding pattern and antibody responses in Diamond Princess cruise ship patients

Patients with COVID-19 can develop asymptomatic lung infection with viral shedding and those with evidence of pneumonia on imaging tend to have a higher antibody response.
