Introduction of Zika virus into Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

During 2014–2016, the authors conducted mosquito-based Zika virus surveillance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Their results suggested that the virus was probably introduced into Rio during May–November 2013 and this occurred via multiple in-country routes. Their evidence also backs previous studies that found Zika virus was probably introduced into the Americas from Brazil in October 2012 – May 2013.
