The authors describe a nosocomial outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the paediatric dialysis unit of a hospital in Germany. 48 cases were involved in the outbreak. Nine contact cases developed laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections. Two SARS-CoV-2 positive cases remained clinically asymptomatic. 11 cases reported influena-like illness without PCR positive results. Ct values were significantly lower in cases presenting with typical COVID-19 symptoms, suggesting higher viral shedding. Therefore person-to-person transmission was responsible for a hospital outbreak of COVID-19 between healthcare workers and patients in the paediatric dialysis unit.
